How to rally when nothing seems to go your way.
Have you ever been on a train and another train passes you? For a moment, it seems the faster moving train is going backward before it overtakes the slower one. This is the same effect that happens during Mercury retrograde, when the fastest-moving planet in the solar system, Mercury, overtakes the Earth in its orbit.
Mercury retrograde can be a frustrating time. As you navigate the inevitable glitches and delays, the key to navigating it and keeping your sanity intact is to remain centered.
The following yoga poses can help slow your thoughts, focus your awareness, and center your energy so that you can handle the frustrations and sense of things happening too fast that are commonly associated with Mercury retrograde. Practice them anytime you feel your nerves become rattled or you need to reset your perspective. Your connection with your breath is also vital during Mercury retrograde, as slowing your breathing can help quiet your thoughts and clear any frustration.
Yoga for Mercury Retrograde
1. Mountain Pose
The simple standing pose reminds you what it’s like to feel grounded and patient in any situation, including unanticipated hold-ups. Bring your feet together or hip-distance apart.
2. Eagle Pose
It’s impossible to think about tech glitches, much less anything else, in this complicated balancing pose. Find your focus, and your confidence, while allowing yourself to not take anything too seriously.
3. Standing Forward Bend
When you need a moment to relax your nervous system, take a simple forward bend. You can do this anywhere and at any time. It’s the perfect energetic reset as you wait for your computer to do the same.
4. Goddess Pose
This standing squat pose reminds you of your inner power and your ability to receive the strength to conquer any challenges in front of you.
5. Child’s Pose
There are times when what you need is comfort. When all else fails, connect your forehead to the ground and come back to your breath. This quieting pose is the perfect remedy for the anxiety that Mercury retrograde can bring.
